Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

Advanced Placement (AP) is a program created by the College Board. AP offers undergraduate, university-level curriculum and examinations to high school students. Colleges and universities in the US and elsewhere may grant placement and course credit to students who obtain high scores on the examinations. The AP curriculum for each of the various subjects is created for the College Board by a panel of experts and college-level educators in that academic discipline. For a high school course to have the designation, the course must be audited by the College Board to ascertain that it satisfies the AP curriculum as specified in the Board's Course and Examination Description (CED).
High school students are able to sign up and take the AP exam given at the end of the course. A fee is associated with each AP exam and although the test is not required, it is HIGHLY encouraged. Students who score highly can be awarded college credit. Awarding of college credit based on AP exam scores is up to the College or University and can vary.
