Dual Credit and Community/Workforce Continuing Education
Dual Credit (DC) and Community/Workforce certification programs
***Note, grades may effect CHS graduation requirements. CHS is not responsible for college DC grades, college deadlines, etc. nor college credit transfer after HS graduation***
Please refer to Del Mar College (DMC) Standards of Student Conduct/Student Code of Conduct: https://www.delmar.edu/offices/engage/standards_of_student_conduct.html.
-Considering DC classes? Before considering enrolling in DC courses, make sure you have done YOUR RESEARCH on the college degree plan/s at the particular post-secondary school’s you are considering. Not all college/universities require the same course requirements.
Additional things to consider:
Some students should think twice before enrolling early in college courses. Here are some factors to consider before taking a college course while in high school:
-Not all colleges consider dual enrollment courses for transfer credit.
Although many public postsecondary institutions accept dual enrollment courses towards their graduation requirements, this is less likely at a private college. Because there are no consistent policies about accepting dual enrollment courses for college credit, do not assume that all credits will automatically transfer when enrolling in college. DO YOUR COLLEGE DEGREE PLAN RESEARCH
-Dual enrollment courses can negatively impact a student’s high school experience.
Although academics are a priority, spending time in a dual enrollment course may adversely affect a student’s schedule. Remember, there are other benefits that are only available during high school, such as developing an artistic or athletic talent. Colleges like to see more than just academics—specifically, how you make an impact in your high school community.
-Additional costs
There may be additional fees for enrolling in dual enrollment courses. In some instances, students are responsible for paying college tuition, books, lab fees and possible transportation costs for college tutorials. You must examine the financial cost of taking dual enrollment courses before enrolling and weigh the costs versus the long-term benefits.
-What is Dual Credit? Dual enrollment simply means that a student is still in high school and enrolled in a college-level class at the same time.
-What is the difference between dual credit and AP courses? AP prepares students to pass an exam to prove their mastery of college-level curriculum and may earn college credit depending their exam scores. Dual credit in enrolls students in college courses while they are still in high school, allowing them to earn credit for both high school and college.
-What is Industry Continuing Education certification courses? Continuing education programs are professional educational opportunities offered to individuals throughout their lifecycle. These programs cover a range of experiences and training to prepare students to industry certificate state examination/s.
